The United States Sports Academy is an accredited, sport-specific institution located in Daphne, Alabama. It offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs as well as certificate programs. Founded in 1972, the Academy has provided its sports programs to more than 60 countries around the world. The United States Sports Academy was the first and is the only of its kind in the United States. It was established in 1972 to turn around a new scientific finding that linked poor preparation of coaches to the injuries incurred by the athletes they supervised. Today, coaches everywhere can prepare thoroughly for their work. Through sports-focused instruction, support of research, and teamwork with professional groups like the National Federation of State High School Associations, the Academy showed how to meet sports professionals’ educational needs.

The Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science (Sports Fitness) is designed for Professionals and Practitioners who are already working in sports related industries as well as those who plan to embark in the career in the industry. The program will provide students opportunities to further their studies in the sport-related areas of administration, coaching principles, personal training, nutrition, conditioning and psychology. This course focuses on the development of professional management and training skills that are essential in the design and implementation of sports fitness programs.

Academic Requirements

NITEC; or
Higher NITEC; or
3 GCE O level Passes at C6 and above; or
Relevant certification issued by the United States Sports Academy; or
Australian Qualifications Framework Certificate III.
English Language Proficiency: GCE O Level Pass in English at C6 and above; or
IELTS 5.0 and above.

Graduation Criteria

Upon completion of all 10 modules, all students are required to undertake 200 contact hours of mentorship programme with a mentor of their choice. This mentorship is the practical part of the programme, involving 200 hours of lectures and practical sessions under the supervision and guidance of an approved trainer in the sports related industry. Students are also required to submit a 5000 words project report for assessment.

Regconition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a candidate may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience and/or formal training. Students may be entitled to a credit transfer in the following circumstances:

Completed units of competency from a relevant National Training Package.
Approved units of competency from a National Training Product.
Successful RPL application.
