Academic Requirements

• 2 GCE ‘A’ levels Pass or Foundation Certificate for Higher Education (FCHE) or Certificate in Foundation Skills (CIFS) or other equivalent qualification deemed acceptable by Informatics Academy.
• Engish Language Proficiency: GCE ‘O’ Level – C6, IELTS – Min score of 5.5 OR, TOEFL (PBT) – Min score of 513 OR, TOEFL (iBT) – Min score of 65 OR, Informatics Certificate in Proficiency in English
• Mature candidates (21 years old and above) with the below credentials may be considered for mature entry on a case-by-case basis:
  • Completed Secondary Education
  • Fulfilled English language proficiency requirement

Modules Covered

• Accounting 1
  • This module provides students with the basic principles of accounting and their application. It covers the understanding of accounting from all sources including manual, mechanical and electronic. The module aims to equip students with the ability to prepare accounting statements and data in accordance to basic accounting conventions and current accounting practice.
• Cost Accounting
  • The aim of this module is to develop the students’ ability to understand the basic principles involved in short-term cost behavior, short and long-term decision-making, short-term profit control, cash management and product cost ascertainment. This module provides students with basic costing concepts and terminology. The module also covers the techniques used for managerial decision-making, planning and control.
• Economics
  • This module covers the fundamental economic theories, concepts and policies. The module also covers economic principles that are applied in decision-making within a business environment. Students will develop an understanding of the general economic environment and its effects on business organisation and the markets in which they operated in. Students will learn to leverage on their economics knowledge as an analytical tool to solve real world business problems.
• Introduction to Financial Accounting
  • This is an introductory financial accounting module that outlines the framework of accounting including its nature, purposes, and the contexts or environment in which it is practiced. The module covers the basics of accounting such as concepts, conventions, recording business transactions and application of accrual accounting. The module also equips students with the knowledge of financial statements from the trial balance for various types of entities including sole traders, partnerships, limited companies, and non-profit entities.
• Management Accounting
  • This module introduces the student to the disciplines of costing and management accounting techniques which are used to support decision making. The nature and purpose of cost accounting is discussed, highlighting the differences from financial accounting. The classification of costs and behaviour of cost are explored. Accounting for material, labour and overheads will be discussed. Additionally, the module covers the use of management accounting techniques in supporting short-term decision-making. It also introduces the costing techniques and standard costing as essential tools for budgeting, planning and controlling business costs.
• Management 1
  • This module is designed to provide students with a fundamental understanding of theory and practice of management, and some elements of the behaviour of people in organisations. The objectives, roles, functions and various forms of business organisation adapting to a dynamic and changing environment will be covered. Students will have an in-depth understanding of the nature of the management process, as well as the application of the principles and theories of management to the actual practice in an organisation.
• Principles of Business Law
  • This module enables students to understand the underlying principles of business laws. Students will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the law of contract and its practical application. Students will also learn about the legal principles relating to sale of goods, customer credit, law of employment and the law of torts.
• Product and Marginal Costing
  • This module is primarily concerned with the framework of cost and management accounting. The relevant cost information for labour and materials will be introduced for planning and control purposes. This module also introduces costing methods and techniques, cost behaviour and short-term decision-making including breakeven analysis.

Graduation Criteria

Upon successful completion of all modules, students will be eligible for the International Diploma in Accounting awarded by Informatics Academy.
