The Certificate in Proficiency in English provides students with a strong foundation in English that will enable them to advance their studies in Higher Education. The Proficiency in English programme is designed for students who wish to pursue advanced courses at Informatics centres or to improve their English in a social or business context. It will bridge the differences in skills and knowledge set between students with diverse educational backgrounds, including those whose first language is not English.

This module will help students develop their grammar, reading, speaking and writing skills. This is for students who already have a basic knowledge of English. This module is for students who have some grasp of English, but who still have problems with basic grammar and little confidence in using English. Upon completion of the unit, the student will have a fairly good grasp of the English language and be able to converse with confidence. They should also have the ability to read and write to a fair competence level The module will cover topics of grammar, vocabulary, Reading and Listening, Task and speaking, Writing, Functions and Situations. The module is based on the Pearson/Longman New Cutting Edge series. This series of textbooks adopts a multi-media approach, including audio, video, blackboard, and interactive whiteboard audio approaches.

Students who have other relevant qualifications may be given exemptions, subject to prevailing rules and regulations of Informatics Academy. Students may be required to undertake an entrance test to assess his competency and depending on their score, they may be granted exemption in some courses. Students may be required to take Placement Tests to assess their standard of English to determine the level they could be enrolled.
