Go beneath the surface and learn various textiles, down to the fibers and the processes involved in weaving, dyeing and much more. This comprehensive course provides you with the ability to identify fabrics by their industry’s name, the fundamental knowledge to help you understand the risks of using certain fabrics, empowering you with the ability to trouble shoot issues related to textiles limitations. You will experience screen printing in class, e-learning and receive a complimentary copy of your very own fabric reference library consisting of 50 – 60 different types of fabric swatches.

Objectives

Understand how fabric is produced from cotton fields to finished product
Describe the processes from yarns to fabric
Differentiate between knits and woven and identify a variety of fabrics • Identify different types of spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, finishing and printing processes
Comprehend the various types of fabric defects
Interpret spectrophotometer readings in colour evaluation
Using the pick glass and fabric cutter to determine the fabric specifications
Evaluate the process of garment wet processing and its associated problems
Understand the common intrinsic characteristics and problems of certain production processes in textiles, thus providing the platform for problem analysis
Enhance troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Be a more informed buyer/purchaser of materials and apparel

Academic Requirements

Local Students
- GCE ‘O’ Level with 3 credits including English and Mathematics OR
- WSQ Advanced Certificate OR
- WSQ ES WPLN Level 5 and above
International Students
- High School Diploma equivalent to GCE ‘O’ Level with 3 credits including English and Mathematics OR
- Qualifications from professional institutes may be considered on a case-by-case basic AND/OR
- Pass TaF.tc Entrance Test
English Language Proficiency
- Possess a minimum credit in English at GCE ‘O’ Level or its equivalent OR
- IELTS score 4.5 or TOEFL score 450

Assessment Methods

Successful completion of all modules within the course

Graduation Criteria

75% attendance rate of total training hours per module
Assessed and be competent for every module
Student Pass Holders – a minimum of 90% attendance per month will be required.

Awards

Upon succcessful completion of the course, trainee will be awarded the WSQ Statement of Attainment (SOA). WSQ Certification is nationally endorsed and recognised by industry partners.
